Weather Eye: Chance of showers today, Wednesday

Nature sure played an April Fool’s joke on us Monday. While writing my column on Saturday afternoon for Sunday, forecast models showed the low in Southern Oregon moving northward for a good soaker on Monday. It actually remained just south of the Columbia River, and the bulk of the rain remained to our south.

Oh well. The joys of weather forecasting. One has to have thick skin and keep a sense of humor. I’m sure that is ingrained in my strands of gray hair by now. So today and Wednesday, we have just a chance of showers and nothing heavy. The latter half of the week looks wet and wetter. A storm is forecast to bring heavy rain and wind to the coast Thursday and Friday with breezy and rainy weather locally.

The last weekend of spring break appears to be unsettled weather. Bummer. I was hoping for at least a few clear and sunny days. Probably happen next week when the classrooms are full. The flowering trees lining many of our roads are in full bloom and absolutely looking great thanks to the calm weather.

I saw many of you out and about over the weekend, which had fair, warm weather. Many were working in the flower beds and mowing grass. Others washing the car and playing at the park. It was a great weekend everywhere in the Pacific Northwest and quite nice along the Washington Coast, though a little breezy Saturday with calm winds and warm sunshine Sunday.

Now that we have the month of March out of the way, we will certainly see what April brings. Of course, there will be April showers for the May flowers. Hopefully, no destructive weather such as severe thunderstorms and small tornadoes. There will be plenty of pollen in the air attacking allergy sufferers. Time for those antihistamines.

I leave you with these words by William Cullen Bryant. “There is no glory in star or blossom till looked upon by a loving eye. There is no fragrance in April breezes till breathed with joy as they wander by.”
