In anticipation of thousands of visitors to the Vancouver Waterfront Park’s grand opening Saturday, the city is encouraging attendees to use public transit.
Parking will be available in the lots along Columbia Way and Grant Street, as well as regular street parking downtown. Downtown Vancouver also has two parking garages. The Vancouvercenter garage, at West Sixth and Columbia streets, charges $1.25 per hour or $3.50 for the entire weekend day. The Park ‘n Go Columbia Bank Garage, at east Fifth and Broadway, is free on weekends.
For those parking further away, the city will operate a shuttle to downtown. Service runs from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. with shuttles leaving every 15 minutes. Shuttles will pick up riders from Hudson’s Bay High School at a temporary bus stop on East Reserve Street at the entrance to the school’s southeast parking lot, and from the Green and Yellow lots at Clark College. Shuttles drop riders off at the roundabout near Esther Short Park.
A bicycle corral is also available one block from the waterfront park. Cyclists should enter the lot on Esther Street south of City Hall.
Visitors can also take C-Tran’s The Vine to the Seventh Street Turtle Place stop and take a free RYD shuttle to the park.
