Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on the following, call 360-735-3690.

• YWCA serves abused and neglected children in the court system. Volunteers in the Court Appointed Special Advocates program look out for the best interests of the children. There will be sessions to learn more about the CASA program at 6 p.m. on Oct. 1, Nov. 29 and Jan 7.

• FISH of Orchards seeks volunteers to help in all areas of its food pantry, providing food to over 4,000 people monthly.

• Hospice Southwest will provide new hospice volunteer training, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 1. Volunteers range in age from 19 to 90 and commit to four hours per week for one year. Positions especially needed are in respite care and at the Ray Hickey Hospice House reception desk. Respite volunteers relieve family caregivers for 3 to 4 hours per week. Apply to attend the training.

• Salvation Army seeks additional volunteers as the food pantry has expanded its hours to 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. Volunteers, working one hour or more, stock shelves and distribute food. Shifts are flexible.

• Villages Clark County seeks volunteers to help others age in place. Assist with event planning, presentations, photography, interviews and other projects.

• Columbia Springs is looking for education assistant volunteers to work with an instructor, helping chaperone students during science-based field trips at the 100-acre site. The hands-on, experiential field trips are designed to teach students, kindergarten through sixth grade, about local ecology, scientific practices, and stewardship. Prospective new volunteers must attend training, 1 to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 2. Learn more or apply at www.columbiasprings.org/volunteer or call 360-882-0936, ext. 222.
