For Brooke Van Sickle, last weekend was a return to her family roots.

Though she grew up in Battle Ground, Van Sickle’s parents met in Hawaii, where they were collegiate volleyball stars.

Last weekend, Van Sickle and the Oregon volleyball team visited the University of Hawaii. Her dad, Gary, played on the Hawaii men’s volleyball team when it was ranked No. 1 in the nation in 1991.

The No. 12 Ducks won both matches against Hawaii, triumphing in three sets on Friday and five sets on Saturday. Van Sickle had five digs and one ace in each match.

Van Sickle leads the Ducks with 18 aces, twice more than anyone else. The libero/outside hitter ranks fourth on the team in digs (69).

A redshirt sophomore, Van Sickle has played in every set this season. Last year, she suffered a knee injury in the sixth match, forcing her to miss the rest of the season and take a redshirt year.
