Men’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark (0-3-1) opened Northwest Athletic Conference South Region play with a 3-2 loss at Chemeketa in Salem, Ore. Clark’s Manuel Cabrera opened the scoring in the 38th minute, with Kleon Keang (Union HS) providing the assist. After two goals by Chemeketa’s Sebastian Ruelas, Nick Erickson (Washougal HS) pulled Clark even in the 61st minute on an assist by Candler Bolte (Columbia River HS). Ruelas completed a hat-trick with the match-winner in the 88th minute.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark plays home matches against Portland College (1-2-1) at noon on Saturday and Rogue (0-2-1) at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Women’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark (3-1-0) opened NWAC play with at 7-0 win at Chemeketa on Saturday, followed by a 3-0 win at home over Lane on Wednesday. Sarah Teubner led the way against Chemeketa with two goals and two assists. Hannah Eakins (Washougal HS) also scored twice. Kayla Sills (Hockinson HS), Samantha Rosenkranz (Union HS) and Maddie Topaum also scored. Against Lane, Kayla Beard (Battle Ground HS) score in the third minute. Eakins scored just before halftime and Teubner added a goal in the 58th minute. Maggie Higgins made six saves.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark travels to Hillsboro, Ore., to face Portland College (3-2-1) at noon on Sunday, then faces Rogue (1-3-1) at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at home.

Volleyball

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark (6-9) went 2-3 at the Spokane Tournament last weekend, with straight-set wins over Columbia Basin and Big Bend. The Penguins lost to Olympic in five sets, Spokane in three sets and Blue Mountain in three sets. The Penguins avenged that loss to Olympic on Tuesday, winning in four sets in Bremerton.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark heads to a crossover tournament this weekend in Gresham, Ore., to face Tacoma, Tresure Valley and Edmonds.

Cross Country

THE WEEK THAT WAS

The Clark men’s team opened the season with a seventh-place finish at the Ash Creek Invitational, hosted by Western Oregon University. Micah Goff (Union HS) was the fastest Penguin, finishing 23rd. Calvin Dubois (La Center HS) was just behind in 24th. Two Clark athletes competed in the women’s race: Nicky Figueras (37th) and Elas Temme (44th).

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark next competes Sept. 22 at the NWAC Preview in Lacey.
