Portland — Tech conferences can be indispensable for people new to the field seeking an opportunity to learn about the latest innovations and to meet others working in the same space.
They can also be expensive, running several hundred dollars before the cost of travel and accommodations. And for people new to tech, or early in their careers, that can be a barrier that shuts them out of a key advancement opportunity.
So PDX Women in Tech is kicking off a scholarship program to send members to conferences they otherwise might not be able to afford, an effort to improve diversity in an industry that remains overwhelmingly male.
PDXWIT is offering to pay up to $2,500 to help finance attendees’ trips. Applications are due by Oct. 31, with winners notified by December.
