Four Vancouver schools were placed into lockdown Monday morning due to a residential burglary in the Lincoln neighborhood.

The Vancouver Police Department directed several schools in the Vancouver school district to go into lockdown as a safety precaution, according to an alert sent to parents.

The alert noted that the law enforcement activity in the area was unrelated to the school district.

Police spokeswoman Kim Kapp said in an email that officers responded to the area due to a residential burglary. Kapp did not immediately have additional details, such as whether a suspect was apprehended.

The lockdown affected Lincoln and Benjamin Franklin elementary schools, Vancouver School of Arts and Academics, and Discovery Middle School. Students and faculty at the schools stayed inside for about an hour.

“Students who arrived at school during this time entered the cafeteria and remained there safely for the duration of the lockdown,” the alert states.
