A fire that apparently started in the kitchen displaced a Hazel Dell family and their pets Friday evening.

The fire broke out about 9:30 p.m. at the Windsor Court Apartments, 7900 N.E. 18th Ave.

Fire District 6 firefighters arrived to find an upstairs apartment’s three people had safely escaped. They were able to rescue the family’s five pets and extinguish the fire, said district spokesman David Schmitke.

No one was injured. The American Red Cross was called to help the family, which was temporarily displaced.

The Clark County fire marshal will investigate the exact cause of the fire.

The Vancouver Fire Department assisted District 6 crews.
