Ten people were arrested over the past week during a Target Zero campaign conducted by the Battle Ground, La Center, Ridgefield, Vancouver and Washougal police departments and Washington State Patrol.
The extra patrols were funded by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission and focused on school zones and pedestrian safety, according to a news release from the Clark County Traffic Safety Task Force.
Officers educated 252 citizens, and issued eight citations and 113 warnings, the news release states.
Since the start of the year, there have been seven serious pedestrian injuries in Clark County. In 2017, Clark County had nine fatalities and 31 serious injuries related to speeding, according to the news release.
Distracted driving is the cause of 30 percent of fatalities and 23 percent of serious injuries in crashes in Washington. And, it’s the only factor in traffic deaths where women outnumber men, the news release states.
