We logged another 90-degree day Wednesday, which made it our 30th day this year of 90 degrees or higher in Vancouver. Of course, we’d already broken the record of 27 days set way back in 1906. Will Wednesday be the last 90-degree day this year? Could be. Looking at last year, we had a high of 91 degrees on Sept. 5. The last 90-degree high we had last year was on Sept. 11.
Next week looks much cooler with an increased chance of rain by Monday. The National Climate Service issued a new outlook for the next 10 days calling for cooler and wetter than average for us. An early rainy season start maybe? Hard to tell at this point, but it will be our first chance for some measurable rain, although looking at forecast models for next week I don’t see a good soaking rain. We surely need one or two.
A little cooler today but still in the 80s. Cooler yet on Friday through the weekend with a good chance of marine cloudiness at times and highs only in the low 70s. Seems like fall is really here the way the trees are changing color. Driving along Northeast 139th Street the other day, I saw trees that are so colorful in the spring really showing their autumn colors already. Overnight lows are getting increasingly cooler with some Clark County areas dipping into the 30s this week.
Like I said the other day, I’m already in autumn mode, so bring it on. I really enjoy the crisp days and nights. The 90-degree heat I can do without, but like Wednesday, a 90-degree high in the late afternoon cools off quickly by sunset.
