The Clark County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday identified the deputy who fired his weapon during a Monday night pursuit of a fleeing suspect as Deputy Sean Boyle.

Boyle fired his weapon during the pursuit of a man in Hazel Dell, who allegedly drove away from police after crashing into a parked vehicle in the Felida area, according to court records. The suspect, identified as Christopher Franklin Rollins, 23, eventually crashed his pickup, fled on foot and then was brought custody.

The sheriff’s office has not disclosed specifics but said Boyle fired his weapon during the chase. He was placed on leave as the Regional Major Crimes Team investigates the shooting, per agency procedure.

Rollins appeared Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court on suspicion of hit-and-run against an unattended vehicle, third-degree driving with a suspended license and two counts each of eluding police and first-degree criminal impersonation. He is also accused in an earlier police pursuit.

Rollins was back in court Thursday for allegedly stealing the pickup and trailer he was driving in the police pursuit from Columbia Machine, Inc. He’s also accused of stealing about $1,600 worth of tools from the business, according to court records.

Both Rollins and Boyle were treated for injuries following the Monday night incident, but neither were struck by gunfire, according to the sheriff’s office.

Boyle is a K-9 handler; his partner is Jango, and he has been with the agency for 21 years, according to the sheriff’s office.
