A Vancouver woman accused of stabbing her former boyfriend, reportedly severing an artery in his arm, appeared Wednesday in Clark County Superior Court.
Nicole J. Nebeker, 34, entered a not-guilty plea to first-degree assault in connection with the Saturday incident in Ridgefield.
Clark County sheriff’s deputies were called to an assault in the 700 block of North Main Avenue, and upon arrival, found the victim sitting by his driveway. He was holding a blood-soaked towel on his upper left arm and told deputies Nebeker had just stabbed him, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
The victim said he hasn’t had contact with Nebeker for months but that she came to his residence unannounced that day. She reportedly wanted to see their children. The victim thought something was off, however, and said Nebeker was acting odd so he began video recording her with his cellphone, the affidavit states.
They began to argue over child-custody issues, and he asked her to leave. Nebeker pushed the victim in his chest and said, “I am ready to kill you, right now.” She then pulled out a hunting knife. The victim warned Nebeker that he was recording, and she replied, “excellent,” court records say.
As the situation escalated, the victim moved away from Nebeker and found an axe; he placed it on the hood of his pickup. Nebeker put her knife away after the victim accused her of threatening him with it. He once again told her to leave, but their argument continued as they moved into the driveway, according to court documents.
Nebeker eventually started to walk away, as they continued to argue, and was about 50 feet down the street when she turned and charged at the victim. She pulled the knife out of the sheath on her side and repeatedly screamed, “I’m going to (expletive) kill you!” as she stabbed the victim in the arm, the affidavit states.
Deputies said video of the attack shows Nebeker stabbing at the victim several times. She then fled the scene, court records say.
Judge Gregory Gonzales set Nebeker’s bail at $100,000. Her trial is scheduled for Oct. 22.
