A 15-year-old boy who allegedly stabbed another teenager outside the Battle Ground Walmart made a first appearance Tuesday in Clark County Juvenile Court.
Court records name Kaiden D. Porter as the suspect in the case. The victim was only identified as a 17-year-old boy, according to a news release from the city of Battle Ground.
Battle Ground police officers responded about 4:30 p.m. Monday to a report of an assault at 1201 S.W. 13th Ave. — specifically, to the parking lot of Walmart.
According to a probable cause affidavit, callers reported that there were teenagers fighting, and one of them was bleeding from the abdomen from an apparent stab wound.
Officers located Porter sitting on the ground in the middle of the parking lot, bleeding from his mouth, according to the affidavit.
Porter told officers he was attacked by a group of people, and he brandished a knife but denied stabbing anyone, according to the affidavit. Police noted he appeared disoriented, and they believed he was intoxicated.
Officers initially could not locate the stabbing victim. It was determined through interviews at the scene that the victim was driven to the hospital by friends, according to the affidavit.
Officers located and spoke with the victim, who is identified in court documents by his initials. He said Porter wanted to fight him because he had hung out with Porter’s girlfriend. The victim said he went to Walmart to speak with Porter, who yelled in his face. He told officers he punched Porter and put him in a headlock, according to the affidavit.
The victim said “they separated and (Porter) pulled out a knife. … (He) said (Porter) lunged at him and stabbed him,” the affidavit says.
The victim jumped into a friend’s pickup, and they headed toward a hospital, according to the affidavit.
Porter also went to a hospital for treatment of injuries. Both teens are expected to recover, officials said.
Witnesses told police Porter was not jumped by several people as he described. The fight was only between him and the victim, they said. One of the witnesses showed police a video of the two teens fighting one-on-one, according to the affidavit.
When the boys separated, the video appears to show Porter asking friends to help him, but no one steps in to do so, according to the affidavit. Then, the recording ends.
After the stabbing, Porter threw the knife in some bushes and tried to escape by jumping a fence but was detained by several witnesses, according to the affidavit. Police located the knife in the bushes.
Porter is believed to have gone inside Walmart prior to the stabbing and stolen the knife he used, according to the affidavit.
Court records show Commissioner Dayann Liebman set bail in Porter’s case at $30,000.
