Teachers at Camas Public Schools voted unanimously Monday evening to ratify a new contract, averting a walkout and clearing the way for school to start as scheduled on Tuesday.
The union said 391 of its roughly 450 members were present for the vote at Camas High School.
Camas teachers looking at a roughly 12.5 increase in total salary compensation over next two years as part of agreement. The salary range in the first year will be from $50,727 to $97,529, and year two will be from $52,868 to $100,110.
Shelley Hoyle, president of the teachers union, said the district added in a longevity stipend to help keep teachers in the district. The stipend pays an additional $1,700 to $2,750 a year to teachers with 15 or 16 years experience, depending on education.
