WASHOUGAL — Washougal School Superintendent Mary Templeton and Associate Superintendent Renae Burson invited families to share a cup of coffee and discuss their thoughts about school issues. These informal morning-time gatherings are called “Coffee with Mary and Renae” and will be held at all Washougal schools throughout the year. The first session, held Sept. 27, was open to Jemtegaard Middle School and Columbia River Gorge Elementary School families, and the second, held Oct. 25, was open to Cape Horn-Skye Elementary School and Canyon Creek Middle School families. “The goal is to hear directly from parents about what they feel is going well and what areas need our attention, what their hopes are for the Washougal School District and how we can support parents and their students,” Templeton said in a release from the district. Topics discussed included elective offerings at middle schools, student vaping, school lunches, a closed campus at Washougal High School and the use of school information systems for parents, such as Skyward. There are monthly sessions planned for December through May. For more information, contact the district office at 360-954-3001.
