The Salmon Creek Cares Luncheon to support cancer services at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center on Oct. 10 gathered more than $73,000.

About 245 community members attended the luncheon at the Hilton Vancouver Washington.

The hospital’s cancer services team supports patients physically and emotionally, ranging from preventive screenings and early diagnosis, to treatment and recovery assistance, according to a Legacy press release.

The foundation has begun a $1.5 million fundraising campaign to expand Legacy Salmon Creek’s comprehensive cancer center to include genetic counseling, social work support, holistic medicine, a healing center and other services.

“World-class cancer care is a vital priority for us,” said Bryce Helgerson, hospital president. “Thanks to the community’s generosity, our patients will benefit from seamless, high-quality cancer care, close to home.”
