CAMAS — The race for Camas’ next mayor is down to four. The deadline to apply was 5 p.m. Friday, and the city received four applicants.

The four who applied are Melissa Smith, Shannon Turk, Dean Dossett and Geoerl Niles. Smith and Turk are current city councilors; Smith has been on the council since 2004, and Turk joined the council in 2011. Dossett was a city councilor from 1986 until 1992, and served as mayor from 1992 until 2003. Niles has been lead pastor at Calling Church in Vancouver since 2009, and a human resources manager with American Waterways since 2013. He is the chairman of the city’s parking committee.

Former Camas Mayor Scott Higgins stepped down in September after seven years of leading the city. City councilors will interview all applicants at a special meeting on Nov. 14.
