Construction will close waterfront streets part of Saturday

Portions of two downtown Vancouver streets in the waterfront area will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic early Saturday morning and continuing into the afternoon due to construction activity at the future site of the Hotel Indigo and Kirkland Tower building.

West Columbia Way will be closed through the waterfront area up to the intersection with Grant Street, and Esther Street will be closed south of the railroad tracks. Traffic routes are expected to return to normal on Saturday evening. During the closure, the waterfront will still be accessible via Grant Street.

Crews at the hotel and tower site will be pouring a five-foot-thick layer of concrete that will serve as the bottom portion of the future building’s foundation. The traffic closure will allow crews to maintain a consistent arrival schedule for the more than 600 truckloads of concrete that will need to be delivered during the pouring operation.
