A transient man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly causing a disturbance at the Hilton Vancouver Washington and fighting with a responding officer.
Daniel P. Popravak, 53, faces allegations of third-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. He is scheduled to make a first appearance Monday morning in Clark County Superior Court, according to the Clark County Jail roster.
Vancouver police were dispatched to the hotel, 301 W. Sixth St., for a suspicious person about 9:25 p.m., according to emergency dispatch logs. The Vancouver Fire Department and AMR were then called about 10 minutes later for an unknown problem.
The initial caller reported that a man, who wasn’t a guest, was in the lobby screaming and threatening people, police said.
By the time an officer arrived, the suspect had walked off and was found at Esther Short Park. The man, identified by police as Popravak, refused to follow the officer’s commands and walked away. He then returned to the hotel and was removed by security, according to police.
Popravak reportedly charged at an officer, prompting a physical fight, before the officer took Popravak to the ground, police said. Other officers arrived to assist, and Popravak was arrested and taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. He was booked into the jail this morning.
The officer, who was not identified, was treated for minor injuries, according to police.
Popravak has a lengthy criminal history in Clark County, dating back to the 1980s, the Washington Courts site shows.
In his most recent case, from November 2017, Popravak was charged in Superior Court with felony harassment with a deadly weapon. The charge was later dismissed, but he was ordered to undergo a civil commitment evaluation, court records show.
