Senior quarterback Carter Morse and senior running back Akilotoa Kaumatule combined for 328 yards rushing and six touchdowns as Hudson’s Bay kept its playoff hopes alive with a 42-21 win over Evergreen in 3A Greater St. Helen’s League action at McKenzie Stadium on Friday night.
Kaumatule rushed for 168 yards and three touchdowns, while Morse added 160 yards and three touchdowns.
Both Morse and Kaumatule had more 100 yards rushing in the second half alone as the Eagles scored half of their points in the third quarter, outgaining the Plainsmen 209-28 in that quarter.
Zyell Griffin provided the early fireworks for Evergreen as he took back the opening kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown. Luke Allen (43-yard TD reception) and Eli Vaa-Leiataua (11-yard TD run) accounted for the Plainsmen’s other two touchdowns.
Bay can claim the No. 2 seed with a win over Kelso next week and Prairie loss to Evergreen, and the possibility of two three-way ties also exist heading into Week 9.
