Weather Eye: Sunny, warm weather won’t last beyond this weekend

As promised, let’s review some rainfall from your friends and neighbors for September. It did rain last month, didn’t it?

Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 2.32 inches; Rob Starr, Cougar, 4.47 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 0.53 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 0.72 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 1.42 inches; Murphy Dennis, Rawson Road near Clark County Rifles, 2.60 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 1.88 inches; Dave Campbell Amboy, 1.91 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 1.64 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 1.15 inches; and Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 3.67 inches.

Rainfall for Vancouver, B.C., from our friend Roland Dersken, 5.52 inches. The official rainfall for our Vancouver was 1.22 inches — 0.34 inches below average.

It appears the heaviest rainfall was in the foothills and well north of Clark County. The rainfall up north in Vancouver, B.C., was Roland’s second wettest September in 44 years. Too bad, we sure could have used that down here!

There is certainly no immediate worry about rain locally, but finally we’re seeing a change in the offing. The jet stream will finally push through the strong ridge of high pressure and rain will fall late Monday or Tuesday, and another weather system will be right behind that one.

Next week looks much more typical of October weather, so get your outside chores done this week or weekend. I think this period of warm and dry weather was our last hurrah.

As we change to a wetter pattern, I wouldn’t be surprised if one of the incoming storms gave us some windy conditions later next week, especially along the coastline.

There has been plenty of frost on what’s left of the pumpkins in the outlying areas this week. Vancouver dipped to a chilly 36 degrees yesterday morning but recovered nicely with a high of 74 degrees.

I think this weekend we’ll see the last of our 70-degree weather. Though our weather has surprised us before.
