Fircrest — The Salvation Army, supporters and local elected officials celebrated breaking ground on an expansion at the organization’s Northeast 112th Avenue campus. The new building will feature a shopping-style food pantry with a space for children to play, a clothing pantry, case management offices, classrooms, computers, a teaching kitchen and a larger space for its after-school program. It will expand The Salvation Army’s footprint from about 10,000 square feet to 19,000 square feet. The ceremony included speeches from Lt. Col. Bill Dickinson, Northwest Divisional leader; U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground; state Sen. Ann Rivers, R-La Center; state Rep. Paul Harris, R-Vancouver; Vancouver Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle; Clark County Council Chair Marc Boldt, and Eric Sawyer, immediate past chairman of the Greater Vancouver Chamber of Commerce.
