Taylor Farms Northwest in Kent is recalling about 280 pounds of ready-to-eat pork carnitas bowl products that contain tomatillos as they may be contaminated with salmonella and listeria monocytogenes, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The pork bowls were produced between Oct. 10 and Oct. 14. The products subject to recall are the company’s 11-ounce, clear plastic-wrapped bowls of pork carnitas, with “sell by” dates of Oct. 15-19.
The products bear establishment number “EST. 34834” inside the USDA mark of inspection, and were shipped to retail locations in Oregon and Washington.
Taylor Farms Northwest learned of the problem Monday, when it received word the fire-roasted, diced tomatillos used in the production of the carnitas bowls were being recalled by their tomatillos supplier due to food-borne illness concerns.
The USDA said Wednesday there have been no confirmed reports of illness due to consumption of these products, and asked anyone concerned about an injury or illness to contact a health care provider.
