Letter: Support Initiative 1639

By Diana Stack Roberts, Vancouver

Allen Ivanov, age 19, killed three people and shot another, all 18 to 19 years old, with an AR-15 he purchased only the week before. He studied the gun’s manual in his car right before the attack. We have an opportunity to keep children and society safer.

Initiative 1639 doesn’t take away guns, but it does extend to semi-automatic weapons the same purchase requirements we have for handguns, and there are requirements for training and storage which seem only logical. We can do better. This is our chance. Vote yes on I-1639.
