I can tell you that, until further notice, we will have sunny skies and warm afternoon temperatures mainly in the 70s. There is no rain in sight, and this forecast goes for the next seven days at least.
If we had labels for high pressure, we would have a Category 5 high just off the coast. In other words, massive and strong. I don’t really know what’s going on with our “normal” October weather, but we will take it. I am sure, as always, the weather will swing around and we will make up for lost time.
Okay, now for the “official” woolly bear caterpillar winter weather forecast. First, the key to the forecast is the number of orange bands in the middle of the caterpillar. The woolly bear is black on the ends and orange in the middle. That is the kind we use, forget the all-orange or all black ones if you go searching.
If there are two or three orange segments, that is supposed to mean a cold winter and most likely snow and ice. If there are five or six bands, then it will be a warm winter. I consider an average of all the critters I sample and if it averages out to four segments, then we have an average winter and could go either way, but it seems to slightly favor the milder side.
