Central Vancouver — Innovative Services NW’s Board of Directors received The Governance Award at the Nonprofit Excellence Awards on Sept. 13 at the Heathman Lodge. The board earned the award for its structure, policies and the culture it intentionally created. The executive board meets monthly to review financial reports, and the full board meets four times a year. All board members must also participate in a functional board to give them a deeper knowledge of the organization. The functional boards have specific areas of responsibility and meet monthly. There are five functional boards: program, development, building/finance, marketing and board nominating/education. The nonprofit serves more than 1,700 adults, children and families facing disabilities and disadvantages.
