In Vancouver, the weather for the first week of October is running much cooler than average, at 3 degrees below normal. Rainfall is spot on. You’ll remember that at the beginning of the month I reported the National Climate Center was forecasting October to be much warmer and drier than average.
The past few days I was waiting for a big revision in that outlook, but it still stands. Keeping with that thought, after some light rain or showers today, we begin to dry out and warm up Wednesday clear through the weekend. Highs will push back to 70, maybe a few degrees higher. Offshore easterly winds will help cause the daytime temperatures to finally get out of the 50s.
With clearing skies and a much drier air mass, expect overnight lows later this week to plummet into the 30s with widespread frost in outlying areas, especially in wind-sheltered locations. More frost on the pumpkins.
Speaking of pumpkins, with a few days of drier weather later this week and expected warm and dry weather over the weekend, that would be an excellent time to journey to the pumpkin patch. An annual tradition in many families.
