UPDATE: Nathan W. Beatty pleaded guilty to three counts of second-degree possessing depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct and was sentenced Jan. 7, 2019, in Clark County Superior Court to three years in prison, court records show.

A 33-year-old Yacolt man who reportedly lived at home with his parents and spent most days in his bedroom is accused of possessing child pornography.

Nathan W. Beatty faces 10 counts of first-degree possessing depictions of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct in Clark County Superior Court.

During his first appearance Thursday, Judge Suzan Clark set Beatty’s bail at $25,000 and scheduled arraignment for Oct. 18.

According to a probable cause affidavit, in early August a Vancouver Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit detective was tasked with looking into a tip provided by the FBI about an internet protocol, or IP, address in the Yacolt area that was sharing child porn in an online chat forum.

The FBI obtained subscriber information associated with Beatty’s parents and their home in Yacolt, according to the affidavit.

A search warrant was served at the Beattys’ home Sept. 26. Beatty’s father reportedly told investigators that his son “spends most of his time in his room and is not employed. He stated Nathan is home all the time and was ‘supposed to be’ looking for a job,” the affidavit says. Beatty’s mother made similar statements about her son’s habits.

Beatty declined to speak with investigators and said doing so wouldn’t matter. When asked what he meant, Beatty replied, “I guess you are going to find out what you are going to find out,” the affidavit says.

A desktop computer in his bedroom was seized and subsequently searched. Detectives reported finding a series of images depicting girls about 8 to 12 years old engaged in sex acts, according to the affidavit.

Investigators said there is no evidence to indicate anyone other than Beatty used the computer or had access to it.
