Did it feel a bit chilly Wednesday morning when you stepped out the door? I can tell you it was. Downtown Vancouver had a low of 39 degrees while some of our friends in the outlying area had a hard frost. Phil Delany above Dole Valley recorded a low of 30 degrees, while Tom Dixon had 36 degrees but frost on the lawn.
Monday saw the first snow of the season falling on many Cascade passes in the state. I saw snow falling on the webcam at Stevens Pass with a thin layer of white on the ground. Nothing yet in Oregon, but the storm on Friday could bring some wet snow to the higher passes by early Saturday morning.
We should have a good soaker Friday as moisture from a couple of tropical storms — Typhoon Kong-rey in the west Pacific and Hurricane Walaka in the central Pacific — will get entrained into our storm. I would expect at least one-half inch to 1 inch locally and maybe higher amounts in the foothills.
No problem with flooding as rivers and streams are quite low for this time of the year. The coastal mountains could get close to 2 inches of rain. The good news is the weather system is fast moving so we may squeak by Saturday and Sunday with some sunshine and dry weather. There will still be lingering showers early Saturday but mostly to our eastern regions.
Clouds and some light rain return probably late Sunday into Monday. Then we keep a chance of light rain or showers into midweek. Highs Saturday and Sunday will be on the cool side, in the low to mid-60s.
