East County Fire and Rescue improved its community insurance rating last year from a Protection Class 8 to 5, which can translate to savings on insurance premiums for home and business owners, according to a news release from the organization.
The agency raised its rating thanks in part to 24-hour staffing provided at two stations on each end of the district and additional hydrant connections with the city of Camas.
East County serves 10,000 people throughout 60 square miles in the unincorporated areas of Vancouver, Camas and Washougal. The agency is asking voters to consider a levy lid lift in the November election, which would bring the fire department’s levy to $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed property value, the same rate as in 2008.
