A new entryway to Vancouver is nearly complete. The city recently installed a rock wall adorned with the city’s name at the corner of Sixth and C streets. Passers-by will notice a distinct lack of landscaping.
Vancouver’s Community and Economic Development Director Chad Eiken said the cause is two-fold. The city wanted to get the sign installed by the time Vancouver Waterfront Park opened Sept. 29. But there was also a financial crunch. Eiken said the estimates for completing the project were more costly than expected. The city will likely seek a second bid to finish the landscaping, irrigation and lighting proposed for the site.
As promised, the sign also features what’s known as hostile architecture. Behind the rock wall, dozens of boulders make for uneven ground to discourage campers.
