The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy Wednesday morning in Orchards as 33-year-old David Villagran.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday that deputies were called about 4:40 a.m. to the 10900 block of Northeast 72nd Street for a report of a stolen car.

They found a suspect in the vehicle near Northeast 109th Avenue and 71st Street, the sheriff’s office said, and the driver rammed a deputy in a patrol vehicle, then the deputy fired.

The sheriff’s office has not shared more details on the shooting, but the medical examiner ruled Villagran’s cause of death as homicide. The medical examiner said Villagran was shot in the head.

The deputy in the patrol vehicle, whom the sheriff’s office has yet to identify, suffered minor injuries and was treated and released from a hospital.

As is standard practice when deputies fire their weapons, the deputy was placed on critical incident leave, according to the sheriff’s office. The Clark County Regional Crimes Unit is investigating the incident.

Villagran’s place of residence, although in Southwest Washington, was unclear Thursday afternoon, as conflicting information was released. The medical examiner’s office listed Kelso, while the sheriff’s office listed Vancouver. A Facebook profile that appears to have been Villagran’s listed Vancouver as his most recent residence.
