Girls basketball: Union 73, Mountain View 37

Mackenzie Lewis poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the Titans in a season-opening nonleague win over the 3A Thunder.

Toryi Midland added 14 as Union outscored Mountain View (0-2) 29-8 in the second quarter.

Despite the defeat, Thunder coach Dave McIntosh’s team was pleased with his team’s output, especially in the first quarter.

“We took a step forward in effort,” he said.

Jenna Carlson led Mountain View with 12 points.
