Despite two 20-point-plus performances, Fort Vancouver dropped its season-opener on the road.
The Trappers hit 13 3-pointers but watched a one-possession lead go in Mark Morris’ favor late.
“We gave them a fight,” Fort coach James Easley said. “We forced a few shots down the stretch. They made a few plays down the stretch and closed it out.”
James Husband (game-high 22 points) and Kahlil Singleton (20) combined for 42 of Fort’s 56 points on 14 of 28 shooting. They also combined for 10 of the team’s 13 made 3s. Singleton made 6 of 8 3-point attempts.
The win by Mark Morris gives longtime coach Bill Bakamas career victory No. 599. He can win his 600th game as early as next Tuesday when the Monarchs travel to 4A Skyview.
