Jasmine Shigeno scored 17 points, Emma Dietel added 16 and the Hawks used a smothering defense to beat Mountain View 67-37 in both teams’ season opener.

Behind its full-court press, Hockinson had 29 steals and allowed just 11 points in the first half.

“I loved our energy,” Hawks coach Damon Roche said. “We had a little lull, but besides that the girls were fired up and stayed after it.”

Leading 24-11 at halftime, the Hawks pulled away with 26 points in the third quarter.

Shigeno had five of her team’s eight 3-pointers. Lauren DeLargy led Mountain View with 10 points.
