Darwin Goodspeed was hired as the new director of the VA Portland Health Care System, which has a campus at 1601 E. Fourth Plain Blvd. The Vancouver location includes a 72-bed Community Living Center, a 35-bed Residential Rehab Treatment Program and a transitional Transplant Lodging Unit. The VA Portland Health Care System administers a range of primary, emergency, specialty, tertiary and long-term care to veterans. In addition to the two main divisions in Portland and Vancouver, the VA Portland Health Care System operates nine outpatient and outreach clinics. Goodspeed joined the VA more than 10 years ago and has held leadership positions in Texas, Ohio and Sioux Falls, S.D. Goodspeed will oversee delivery of health care to more than 94,930 veterans and an operating budget of $729 million. His start date was Nov. 25.

Charter College, a private institution located in the Columbia Tech Center, 17200 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd. Suite 100, Vancouver, hired Juli Lau as its new director of admissions. The school, which opened in 2010, specializes in career-focused education and offers bachelor and associate degrees, and certificate programs, in health care, business, trades and information technology. Lau most recently served as the vice president of admissions for Pioneer Pacific College in Portland. In addition to Washington, Charter College operates campuses in California, Alaska, Montana, New Mexico and has online programs.
