Today will be the last fair weather day for a short while as the long Thanksgiving holiday, including Black Friday, looks to be on the damp side of things. What about holiday travel? If you are traveling over the Cascades on Wednesday and coming back on Sunday you should be just fine. Wet roads with rain on Wednesday and maybe just partly cloudy to cloudy skies Sunday with road temperatures above freezing.
If traveling over the mountains Thanksgiving through Saturday, expect snow at times with snow-covered roads. Much depends on the freezing levels and how they bounce around with the passage and arrival of a couple of weather systems. It certainly doesn’t look to me like the start of a good snowpack. As always check road conditions before leaving and carry chains or traction tires.
We may go back to high pressure and dry weather, which has been our weather pattern for some time now. And weather outlooks for December are still calling for warmer than average and drier than average. I can tell you both Thanksgiving and the day after will be good days for indoor activities. Keep your rain jacket and umbrella handy if you are out dashing around.
Seven years ago, I was writing about record cold in Alaska where even the North Pole had a record for the date of 42 degrees below zero. Some of that cold made it down to Clark County with snowflakes mixing in with the rain on Nov. 19, 2011.
Enjoy today and we shall chat on Thanksgiving.
