It was nice to have clear skies and sunshine yesterday, but, boy, that east wind was chilly. Although downtown Vancouver had a high of 58, the east wind was gusting over 30 mph, bringing windchill into the 30s.
Some people were placing outdoor Christmas decorations Saturday. Smart move because the weather is going to change over Thanksgiving. We’ll get a bit of rain Wednesday and Thursday, and then a stronger storm Friday and Saturday. Colder air aloft will arrive, and mountains will get snow as freezing levels lower.
Neither storm looks strong enough to give a good dumping at ski areas. Perhaps things could materialize more than the computer models forecast and good snow will fall. Some moisture may slip into California with much needed moisture and snow in the mountains. We’ll see.
I don’t think we are entering into a major pattern change. The weather systems look like they may split in directions and stay on the weaker side of things. One model shows the storm on Black Friday could deepen, with coast winds in the 60-70 mph range.
