OK, before we start talking weather, let’s review some rainfall from your friends and neighbors for October, as we finally had some rain to report. Claudia Chiasson, Carson, 5.96 inches; Rob Starr, Cougar, 10.06 inches; Robin Ruzek, Lake Shore, 4.90 inches; Pete Conrad, Tukes Mountain, 4.64 inches; Dave Campbell, 1 mile west of Heisson, 5.99 inches; Larry Lebsack, Barberton, 4.83 inches; Phil Delany, above Dole Valley, 9.70 inches; Tyler Mode, Battle Ground, 5.63 inches; Judy Darke, Felida, 4.32 inches; Ellen Smart, Ridgefield, 4.00 inches; Matt Sloan, west Vancouver Heights, 2.40 inches; Chuck Houghten, Hockinson Heights, 5.26 inches; Jim Knoll, Five Corners, 4.20 inches; Murphy Dennis, Rawson Road near Clark Rifles, 5.60 inches; Irv St. Germain, Prune Hill, 4.50 inches; and Bill Sobolewski, Livingston Mountain, 3.69 inches. Our friend Roland Dersken in Vancouver, B.C., had 4.82 inches. The official rainfall for Vancouver USA was 3.38 inches, 0.31 inch above average.
After having the first two weeks of October warm and dry, it didn’t look like we would get to the average for the month, but we did as well as many others around the county. Now look at us this month. Dry, dry, dry. That weak weather system Wednesday did little to add to the rainfall total. Generally, less than a tenth of an inch.
Those east winds brought chilly air from the Columbia Basin on Tuesday, and we only managed a high of 47 degrees here in Vancouver. That is the coldest high temperature since a 45-degree high on March 24. High pressure builds back inland today and we have another round of east winds this weekend along with low humidity and dry conditions.
We may see some clouds and rain as we head into Thanksgiving week, but amounts, if any, appear light. Certainly will not be the start of ski season this Thanksgiving year. Stay tuned as things could change.
We will go over Thanksgiving week in Sunday’s column.
