The Southwest Clean Air Agency has issued a burn ban for Clark County due to unhealthy air caused by indoor and outdoor wood burning, as well as smoke drifting north from a deadly California wildfire.
The agency said in a Thursday alert that the burn ban was effective immediately. All outdoor burning and the use of all fireplaces, uncertified wood stoves and inserts is prohibited.
Residents whose only source of heat is wood burning are exempt from the ban, but the agency asked they “burn as clean as possible.”
The ban should be lifted at 8 a.m. Saturday.
“Colder nights followed by limited daytime ventilation and dispersion have caused fine particle air pollution levels to rise toward the federal health-based standard,” the agency said.
Air quality advisories were issued for nearby Cowlitz and Lewis counties, but no burn bans were announced.
