Volleyball

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Clark qualified for the Northwest Athletic Conference tournament by beating Clackamas in a play-in game Saturday at O’Connell Sports Center. Clark (18-19) won in four sets, 25-17, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20.

Laurel Davidson had 17 kills and 17 digs while Gillian Garcia added 12 kills. Sophomore Megan Hess, (Prairie) had 32 assists and 17 digs.

THE WEEK TO COME

Clark begins NWAC Tournament play at 9 a.m. Thursday at the Greater Tacoma Convention Center. The No. 4 seed from the South Region, Clark opens against East Region champion Spokane in the double-elimination tournament.

Women’s Soccer

THE WEEK THAT WAS

The Penguins lost to Peninsula 2-0 in the NWAC championship match on Sunday in Tukwila. The Penguins, which hadn’t allowed a goal in 13 matches, surrendered two in the first 15 minutes. Clark finished the season 14-2-1.

On Wednesday, Clark’s Kayla Beard, Allyson Findlay and Samantha Rosenkranz were selected to the NWAC South All-Region team.

Cross Country

THE WEEK THAT WAS

Freshman Micah Goff (Union) placed 17th out of 72 runners in the NWAC Championships on Saturday in Lacey. He covered the 8,000 meter course in 27:28. Aaron Avery placed 26th, Kyle Bear 37th, Calvin DuBois 40th and Micah Turner 60th as Clark placed seventh.

Nicky Figueras was Clark’s top woman. She placed 20th out of 68 runners and covered 5,000 meters in 21:10. Elsa Temme was 35th and Carmella DeSean finished 42nd.

Basketball

THE WEEK TO COME

The Clark men’s team opens its season Friday at home against Reed College. The Penguins then face Pacific’s JV team on Monday, then return home to play Multnomah JV on Tuesday. The women’s team opens at Edmonds on Sunday, then plays at Everett on Monday.
