NCAA Division-II, Division-III and NAIA college football teams learned their postseason fates this weekend.
And that meant both joy and disappointment for programs where Clark County players make an impact.
Keithen Shepard (Union HS) helped MIT secure a berth in the NCAA Division-III playoffs. He had two touchdown catches as the Engineers clinched just the programs second conference championship.
MIT (9-1) will face Johns Hopkins (9-1) in the first round of the 32-team tournament on Saturday in Baltimore.
The fate of other programs was decided by committees that hand out at-large berths.
Central Washington, where several local players have significant roles, was passed over for an NCAA Divison-II berth after dropping its season finale against Azusa Pacific. The Wildcats (8-3) earned at least a share of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference title for a second straight year.
Linfield (7-2) had its string of nine consecutive postseason appearances snapped. The Wildcats, which finished second in the Northwest Conference, had hoped for an at-large berth to the Divison-III playoffs after a 50-7 rout of Pacific on Saturday.
