The Vancouver Navigation Center serving people who are homeless will open soon. Staff from the city and Share will provide tours and answer questions from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday as part of the center’s grand opening. There will be official remarks between 4 and 4:30 p.m.
Parking is available at the center, at 2018 Grand Blvd. The facility will provide showers, laundry, storage, mental health counseling, job search assistance and other services for homeless people.
Share will be setting up furniture and shelving for the facility Sunday through Tuesday. Those interested in volunteering can contact Dellan Redjou at volunteers@sharevancouver.org to sign up.
The city purchased the building for $4.3 million last year and budgeted $500,000 for renovations. The navigation center will take up about 5,000 square feet of the 26,578-square-foot building, which used to house the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.
