Weather Eye: Though temperatures dropping, rain won’t arrive until next week

It is so quiet here in the weather department that I feel like the Maytag repairman with my feet up on my desk.

OK, so when is it going to rain again?

Looking at the crystal ball, I have to really strain my eyes to see much precipitation heading our way.

Looking over all the computer forecast models Wednesday afternoon, I see a weak weather system late next Tuesday into Wednesday. Some models keep the bulk of the rain to our north and another has it right over us. I’m sure that will change.

It wouldn’t surprise me if we saw more wet weather than dry during the week of Thanksgiving. But with a moderate El Niño brewing, and the “blob” of warm water in the Gulf of Alaska, who knows? Still, cold air abounds over the northern interior.

With some clearing skies yesterday, did you see the fresh snow on Mount Hood and Mount St. Helens? Timberline had a nice dumping of snow, the second of the autumn season. Now if we can just get the snow machine off the Pacific going.

With Thanksgiving arriving on the early side this year, it’s rather doubtful ski season will open that weekend.

Despite the late afternoon sunshine yesterday in Vancouver, the thermometer was bouncing around the 50-degree mark. That is some six degrees below average. The high on Nov. 7 of last year was 50 degrees.

Enjoy the quiet weather while you can, I’m sure there will be some excitement soon enough.
