One of three men charged in the death of Shawn Scott Jr., a Vancouver teenager who was killed in Portland during an apparent robbery, has pleaded guilty to manslaughter and will be sentenced in January.
Malique Kinnerly-Hicks, 18, of North Portland pleaded guilty Oct. 31 in Multnomah County, Ore., Circuit Court to first-degree robbery and second-degree manslaughter. In return for his guilty pleas, one count of murder and another count of first-degree robbery were dismissed. He will be sentenced Jan. 22, online court records show.
Two co-defendants, Kole Tabian Jones, 20, of Gresham, Ore., and Miguel Thompson, 20, are set for trial Dec. 3. Each faces one count of murder and two counts of first-degree robbery, according to court records.
Scott, 17, was fatally shot April 11, 2017, in Portland’s Holladay Park, near Lloyd Center, while being robbed at gunpoint for his belt, according to a probable cause affidavit filed in Kinnerly-Hicks’ case. He was a junior at Union High School.
