Election day is finally here, and there’s still plenty of time to vote.

Washington is a vote-by-mail state, and voters have a deadline of 8 p.m. Tuesday to have their ballot postmarked or placed in a drop box.

Voter turnout in Clark County surged ahead of Tuesday’s election, with 47 percent of 281,554 eligible voters casting ballots by Monday, according to the most recent tally posted by the county Elections Office.

This year’s election features a competitive race in Washington’s 3rd Congressional district between U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, and Carolyn Long, a political science professor running as a Democrat against the four-term incumbent.

Readers can follow the latest results at columbian.com as they become available after 8 p.m. and by following the the #clarkelex and #waelex hashtags on Twitter.
