A Vancouver man has been named as the suspect in an Oregon police chase that ended with an officer-involved shooting.

Jason Leo Hansen, 29, was identified as the suspect Thursday by the Portland Police Bureau. Hansen is being treated for gunshot wounds at a Portland-area hospital; upon release he will be booked into the Multnomah County, Ore., Jail.

The incident occurred on the night of Oct. 19. At about 8 p.m., a Clackamas County, Ore., sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop a stolen car near the Johnson Creek Fred Meyer store. The driver sped off and a chase ensued, then ended when the stolen car crashed near Southeast 89th Avenue and Gray Street. The driver bailed out of the car, leaving a woman behind in the passenger seat, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

Deputies chased the driver on foot, and at some point shots were fired. Portland police Officer Kameron Fender was also reported to have been bitten by a police dog handled by Clackamas County Deputy Jon Campbell. Fender was treated at a hospital for his injuries and released, police said.

In Oregon, the district attorney submits the findings of the police investigation to a grand jury, which decides which charges criminal suspects will face. The grand jury will consider Hansen’s case at a date to be determined.
