Washougal — More than 125 Gause Elementary School family members enjoyed various interactive displays April 24 at the school’s expanded Science Night, which included two new features: a competitive science fair and an art walk with recycled art created by students. The competition began before spring break, when students from kindergarten through fifth grade submitted their ideas for review. At the fair, a panel of judges visited each student, quizzing them on their topics. Second-grader Ruthie Karn and first-grader Kyle Karn took home third place for their project, “Is the five-second rule true?” Fifth-grader Aiden Shimata’s project, “Hydraulics, robotics and claws!” earned him a second-place finish behind third-grader Derek Ager for his “Magnetic Tractor Pull” project. The judges unanimously chose fourth-grader Jack Dryden for the Judge’s Award for his project, “The physics roller coaster.”
