Skamania County deputies say a trailer fire Wednesday night in Stevenson killed a 66-year-old woman.

Emergency responders were dispatched about 7:22 p.m. to the report of a structure fire at 241 Moore Road, according to a Skamania County Sheriff’s Office press release. A caller told dispatchers her neighbors’ home was on fire.

Firefighters with Stevenson Fire Department and Skamania County fire districts 1 and 2 responded to the scene. Once there, they determined someone was still inside the burning home.

A deputy and firefighters entered the trailer through a rear window in an attempt to save Ella Louise Moore, deputies said. Once inside, they encountered heat and thick smoke, as well as a large amount of debris, said Undersheriff Pat Bond.

Firefighters cut a hole in the trailer from its interior to get Moore out, Bond said.

“Lifesaving efforts were immediately started,” deputies said, but Moore could not be revived and died at the scene.

Witnesses told responders that the fire appeared to have started at the front of the trailer. Moore’s husband tried to save his wife but was unable to get her out of the back room, they said.

The Clark County Fire Marshal is investigating the fire’s cause.
