Hockinson grad Lines named NWAC West region first team baseball

Clark's Lopez, Browne also receive first-team region honors

Hockinson High grad Mitch Lines, a freshman pitcher at Lower Columbia College in Longview, was named first-team NWAC West Region on Friday.

Lines was 4-0 with a 2.39 ERA over 37 innings with 25 strikeouts and 10 walks.

Clark College sophomores Chaz Lopez (utility) and Derek Browne (relief pitcher) were named first-team South region, and sophomore pitcher Nathaniel Brezner-Mendoza was named second-team and earned a gold glove.

Lopez, a Kentwood High grad, hit .308 with five home runs, 12 doubles and 25 RBI. On the mound he was 6-1 with a 4.16 ERA in 45 innings with 44 strikeouts.

Browne, a Tahoma High grad, was 7-1 with eight saves and an 0.90 ERA. He had 50 strikeouts and seven walks.

SOFTBALL — Clark sophomore infielder Karley Yoshioka was named first-team NWAC South region. She hit .311 with 19 RBI for the Penguins.

Named second-team from Clark were sophomores Shaz Nakoa-Chung (infield) and Luzy Yazzolino (outfield).
